About Us

The Mercury Lounge has been the heartbeat of New York City's independent music scene since 1993. Tucked into 217 E Houston Street on the Lower East Side, this iconic venue has launched careers, hosted legends, and given music lovers a place where the art comes first — every single night.

Step inside and you feel it immediately: a room built for music. The intimate 250-capacity floor plan puts you close enough to see the sweat on the performer's brow, while a sound system tuned by genuinely talented engineers delivers clean, powerful audio without the wall-of-noise chaos of bigger clubs. Fans have called it one of the best-sounding small venues in the country — and after one show, you'll agree.

This isn't a bar that occasionally books bands. The Mercury Lounge is a living institution of the NYC music underground — a place where discovery happens, where you tell your friends "I saw them here before anyone knew who they were." With a 4.5-star reputation built on 1,398 reviews and a staff known for being warm, funny, and genuinely passionate about music, every visit feels like being let in on a secret.

What We Offer

The Mercury Lounge delivers a full live music experience from the moment you walk through the door. Nightly concerts span indie rock, punk, folk, electronic, and everything in between — with a booking philosophy that prizes talent over hype and keeps ticket prices accessible.

Beyond the stage, the venue offers a full-service bar stocked with quality cocktails, beer, and spirits to keep the night going. The ticketing process is straightforward and efficient, with easy entry and clear policies so you spend less time in line and more time in front of the music. Camera-friendly policies (for most shows) let true fans capture the moment.

For artists, The Mercury Lounge is one of the most coveted small-venue bookings in the city — professional production, a legendary reputation, and an audience that actually listens. For fans, it's simply the best place in New York to discover your next favorite band.

"Came here on a Saturday evening to watch a band (Good News!). Metal detector to get in, ticket process easy, and they let me bring my camera in (tho they told me no taking video with the pro camera...only iphone). Sold out show, so the floor was packed and the crowd was into it, so had a great time! Not a lot of room by the bar to hang out before/after the show, Will definitely come back to watch more bands!"

"Great venue for live music. Hole in the wall, but sound was strong, clear and clean but not overpowering, I wish I had the gotten the name of the woman working the sound system- she did a great job. Noah Richardson, Dosey & Alexa Kate were the performers - all different styles but very entertaining. If you like live music, this is a great spot - you are standing the whole time though. , Beer was ice cold at the bar."

"This lounge allows an intimate experience with the artist/performer. The drinks were great and the staff were friendly and funny. I plan to come back for future shows. I was pleasantly surprised to find available seats placed along the walls, this allows people to take a small break from standing."

"Place was small and kind of dirty. Employees weren't particularly helpful. You had to squeeze in like sardines to get in and out when a concert let's out everyone blocks the bathroom and line to buy merch. Also, there are no chairs, so you will stand during the entire concert. That might be ok somewhere else, but in NYC most people will have just walked a long way to get there then stood in line an hour outside to get in."

"Decent small venue but lacking in ventilation, got hot quickly & the smell of other people was overpowering. Didn't eat so not casting judgement on food. Friendly staff & security check. Convenient location close to subway."
